Veterans Grove a Community for Veterans Experiencing Homelessness

DJI_0275.JPG
Located along the Susquehanna River in south Harrisburg on a tranquil five-acre parcel, VOPA has built a village of 15 tiny homes surrounding a community center for Veterans experiencing homelessness. VOPA’s innovative “Veterans Grove” community is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of each Veteran through a therapeutic community model that builds camaraderie, personal responsibility, and healing, while recreating the stable support network offered to them before they left the service.

* Data provided from the 2022 Homeless Point-In-Time (PIT) Survey by the US Department of HUD and the Capital Area Coalition on Homelessness.

** Data provided from the 2022 Lebanon VA Medical Catchment.  Over 300 Veterans in our area needed housing last year.

For this is a community of care-givers who will freely and happily give of their time and talents to address the issues and problems that affect many of our veterans. This is a village of volunteers who have a heart-felt desire and commitment to serve those who served, helping them achieve self-respect, confidence, independence and the desire to achieve a better quality of life. Through this village, wounded and disabled veterans, and those haunted by guilt, suffering from mental trauma, or living on the margins, will receive dedicated attention to their problems. Professional help will be given to veterans who are dealing with traumatic brain injury, and psychological, emotional and behavioral challenges. Veterans who take up residence in the village will find a renewed sense of self, self-worth, purpose and hope.  A village with a community center and 15 tiny homes for veterans. Homes that provide privacy as well as opportunities for fellowship.
